Tony Dungy: More Than a Coach—My Hero

On January 12, 2009 the Earth stood still for me. It was the day that Tony Dungy retired from coaching. It was shocking and it was the end of an era that changed my life. Tony Dungy is my hero.
Being a long time Colt's fan, it was painful to watch them in the 80's and it wasn't much better in the 90's. In 1998 the Colts had the first pick in the draft. They didn't select Ryan Leaf (thank God), they selected Peyton Manning.
I didn't have high expectations for Manning because I got so used to them losing. I suffered from depression because of their losing, but it wasn't because they lost, it was because the consequences.
During the late 80's and early 90's I had a gambling problem and that affected my life. I sometimes didn't have a roof over my head and I lost a lot of friends. This problem turned into an addiction, which ended in 1998, the year Manning was drafted.
