Coach Jim Caldwell apologized to fans, saying "I'm sorry that Sunday the fans in Indianapolis, the best fans in the wold, will only see one competent quarterback."
Giants coach Tom Coughlin agreed. "You know it is a shame to go through training camp, the preseason, and week No. 1, and still only be able to showcase one good Manning."
The disappointment is most clearly felt at ESPN. "I remember the good old days where one great QB was enough," said ESPN commentator Mike Ditka. "Heck, often when I was coaching there'd be no great QB."
Shannon Sharpe of CBS said something when asked, but no one knows what.
Archie Manning was asked to comment but just shook his head as he walked away mumbling about recessive genes.
