AFC South: Re-evaluating a Rivalry

The Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts haven't been rivals forever. It took a divisional realignment to get the bad blood flowing.

In 2002, the NFL welcomed the new Houston Texans franchise, which led to the creation of the AFC South. Two years after their Superbowl run, the Titans swept the division and posted an 11-5 season. The Colts came in second going 10-6 with two of those losses coming to the Titans.

The next year, the Titans and Colts both went 12-4, but the Colts took the division by sweeping the Titans that year.

For the next four years, the Colts dominated the South with a division record of 19-5. However, last year the Titans took top spot in the NFL regular season and reclaimed the division. The Colts tied for second in the league with three other teams at 12-4, though some would argue their Week 17 victory against the Titans was more of a gift.
